Recently, an office from China's Nanjing Military Region has finished developing a military game named Glorious Mission, which has China-owned property rights, jointly with Giant Interactive Group, Inc. (Wuxi).

Military games have been developed for years. They have formed a system and been put into use in education as well as training in some foreign armies. However, China's own development of military games is still in the primary steps.

Although some foreign military games have been used in some Chinese armies' daily training, they may not suit Chinese soldiers and even mislead them due to the different concepts of values and military thoughts.

The finished Glorious Mission with completely-independent China-owned property rights is not only full of Chinese characteristics but also brings China up to speed on military game development.

The Glorious Mission is set from a soldier's perspective and his barrack life. The game follows along as the soldier keeps promoting himself in training and finally qualifies to join a large-scale military exercise codenamed "Glorious Mission" and how he does in the military exercise.

The departments that invented the game are promoting the current game and looking forward to integrating more informationized and systematic concepts into it. And the promoted game software will be tried in some chosen armies.

This is an interesting commentary from Major Gernal Luo Yuan of China's Peoples Liberation Army in the Liberation Army Daily. China clearly understands the military plans and strategies of imperialism, it has known ever since the revolution that led to the establishment of Communist China in 1949. 


Especially interesting is the comments regarding the u.s imperialist strategy in the Asia Pacific region to develop its military presence, and develop relations with countries on the basis of militarily containing and aggressing China. The usa and uk's rapproachment with Myanmar is indeed in line with their regional strategy of trying to bring certain nations closer to their hegemony in order to isolate China. This is classic Chinese diplomatic strategy, the Chines realise that there is no real long term sense in any country building relations with imperialism due to imperialism economic and military decline historically, however the Chinese also realise that while imperialism is in historic decline, it is at the same time prepared to take humanity into war and trauma in a desperate attempt to maintain its domination.

China top military paper warns U.S. aims to contain rise

The United States' new defense strategy focused on the Asia-Pacific region is directed at containing China's rise, the People's Liberation Army's newspaper said on Tuesday in Beijing's strongest warning yet against the new Pentagon stance.

The commentary in the Liberation Army Daily, however, also said China's sensible response to the U.S. military re-focus on Asia should be "vigilance" and smart diplomacy, not panic.

The United States is "laying out forces across the Asia-Pacific region in advance to contain the rise of China," said the commentary in the paper by Major General Luo Yuan.

Washington's assertions that the military re-focus announced last week is not directed at China are "simply making their real intent all the more obvious."

"Casting our eyes around we can see that the United States has been bolstering its five major military alliances in the Asia-Pacific region, and is adjusting the positioning of its five major military base clusters, while also seeking more entry rights for military bases around China," wrote Luo.

"Who can believe that you are not directing this at China? Isn't this the return of a Cold War mentality?"

Luo is well-known for his hawkish views, often published in popular Chinese newspapers and online. But the appearance of his commentary in the Liberation Army Daily, which is heavily vetted as the chief paper of the military, suggests that his latest comments enjoy some level of official endorsement.

On Monday, China's Ministry of Defense warned the United States to be "careful in its words and actions" after last week announcing the defense rethink that stresses responding to China's rise by shoring up U.S. alliances and bases across Asia.

The new U.S. strategy promises to boost strength in Asia in an attempt to counter China's growing ability to check U.S. power in the region, even as U.S. forces draw back elsewhere across the globe.

Under the new strategy, the United States will maintain large bases in Japan and South Korea and deploy U.S. Marines, navy ships and aircraft to Australia's Northern Territory.

The strategy also calls for countering potential attempts by China and Iran to block U.S. capabilities in areas like the South China Sea and the Strait of Hormuz.

China has sought to balance voicing its wariness about the U.S. moves with its desire for steady relations with Washington, especially as both sides grapple with domestic politics this year, when President Barack Obama faces a re-election fight and China's ruling Communist Party undergoes a leadership handover.


Luo warned against panic.

Instead, Beijing must do a better job at courting friends in the region, charming countries away from the United States' orbit, he wrote.

"In the face of this adjustment in the U.S. strategic focus, we must possess a sense of peril and maintain a high degree of vigilance, but there is no need to be alarmed about the expected," wrote Luo.

"We must be adept at maneuvering and use smart diplomacy, and the more friends we can make the better," he wrote.

Eighty-two years ago tomorrow, the world's largest army was founded in a country whose then-ascendant Communist leaders, once in power, kept the doors tight shut against outsiders until the late 1970s.

Now, 60 years after the founding of the People's Republic and 30 after the country opened up, China's Ministry of National Defence has launched its first website in Beijing's latest effort to draw back the curtain of the secrecy shrouding the 2.3 million-strong People's Liberation Army.

The site (http://www.chinamil.com.cn/) - like its PLA predecessor at the same address - is in both Chinese and English (http://eng.chinamil.com.cn/). A ministry spokesman, Hu Changming, said recently that the site was "a way to increase understanding between countries and raise trust between militaries".

As China's military budget has grown by double digits in recent years, so too have concerns among its neighbours and potential rivals. China's spending of $70 billion, though dwarfed by the Pentagon's $500 billion annual allocation, is on a par with spending by Britain, Japan and Russia.

A military analyst, Song Xiaojun, says the site will offer more detail on that spending and on general defence policy.

"The Defence Ministry is a special organisation. In principle it should be in the system of the State Council," said Song, referring to China's cabinet. "In fact, it is more like a window of the army toward the outside world. The current chinamil site is mainly about life in the army. It doesn't have much on the policy level."

Song explains that for centuries China was inward-facing. Now, as the world's third-largest economy, the country is playing catch-up as it grows more dependent on imported resources such as oil and the iron ore needed to fuel its steel industry, the biggest in the world.

Last winter, China's navy, officially part of the PLA, sent a rare force to protect Chinese merchant vessels against Somali pirates in the Red Sea.

"China only became an oil-import country in 1992. Large amounts of raw material imports happened after 2002. By then, China's interest in development was far ahead of China's interest in security," Song said. "China is now recuperating its debts on the state's basic security. As China does so, other countries start feeling that China is developing its army too fast."

Ever since the military crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Beijing in June 1989, green uniformed soldiers have been omnipresent in China, from Beijing's crowded streets to the dirt roads of the provinces.

With no wars to fight, the PLA has devoted itself to rescue efforts after natural disasters, such as the Sichuan earthquake last May, which killed 80,000 people. Soldiers helping quake victims were lionized in the state-controlled media.

But recent ethnic unrest in west China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and ongoing tensions between Beijing and self-ruled Taiwan mean China's military also remains on high-alert at home.

In keeping with Beijing's desire to control all information--both internal and international--about the image of the Communist Party, the new military web site already presents one face in Chinese and another one in English.

Chinese site headlines are uniformly mundane, such as "Jiaoliu Train Line Derailed, Soldiers Perform Urgent Rescue," whereas the site's English avatar features items such as "U.S. May OK High-tech Exports to China."

BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Netizens around the world
are deeply moved by the Chinese top leadership in the
quake-fighting battles, saying President Hu Jintao and
Premier Wen Jiabao "both deserve the Nobel Peace Prize."

The 8.0-magnitude quake, the most deadly in decades in
China, striking Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province at 14:28
pm on May 12, has killed over 40,075 and affected many
parts of the country.

On the same day May 12 or, to be exact, little more than
two hours of the quake, Premier Wen Jiabao took off from
Beijing. By 19:10 pm, he was already at the quake area,
directing the rescue effort from the ground. He spent 88
hours with the victims, rescuers and troops under the
threat of aftershocks still trembling.

In the past 10 sad yet encouraging days, netizens have
created websites, published posts or written blogs to join
the battles. They have extolled the central government's
quick response, good coordination and, most of all, its
"human-life-above-all" policy.

"From the top leadership where president Hu Jintao despite
being in the middle of an aftershock encourages the
rescuers to continue to try to save lives, to premier Wen
Jiabao, who slipped and fell and refused medical treatment,
and from the very beginning directed the rescue effort from
the ground," a netizen from the United States wrote.

The netizen, named as Sifu, added: "I am encouraged by the
CHINESE leadership at ALL levels because they have a CAN do
attitude for the people."

Another netizen, called Jim Doyle from the United States,
wrote on a post "like most Americans I feel great sorrow
for the families who have lost loved ones in the Sichuan
earthquake. The deaths of so many children is tragic.

But China is so lucky to have leaders like Hu Jintao and
Wen Jiabao. For the work they have done all around the
world they both deserve the Nobel Peace Prize."

A netizen "loving everyone" from Hongkong said: "I just
watched a segment on CNN about the China earthquake. I was
moved by the mobilization of the PLA (Chinese People's
Liberation Army)and (Premier) Wen. No matter what our
differences are politically, the world sends its love to
the Chinese people and our prayers."

A netizen, named as Ho Sai Yuen from Canada, said: "The
Premier's true sense of dedication is not only commendable
but should be recorded in the annals of history."

Another netizen, called mengzhi from Australia, said: "The
way and speed with which the Chinese leadership has
responded to the catastrophe in rapid mobilization of men
and material is world class."

Mengzhi continued, "the unified dedication and unstinting
mutual help between the survivors, the rescue workers and
the army is a lesson in unity and co-ordination. The
Chinese people are impressed, and so is the world at large.
Well done China. We salute you and will continue to pray
for you. Jiayou (cheer up)."

　　Earthquake has no mercy for anybody, and yet, when natural disasters like earthquake befall on mankind, the splendor of humanity shines even more brilliantly.

　　It is about one ordinary mother who was deprived of her life by the most fatal earthquake that hit Suchuan Province of China and moved all the rescuers to tears by the tragic and stirring way she died. She was down on her knees with her body crouching forward and her hands on the ground propping up her upper body to shield her baby who was unscathed and still sleeping like a log under her when they were found. Tucked in the quilt used to bundle up the baby was a cellular phone carrying her last short message that reads: "Dear darling! If you can survive this earthquake, make sure to remember that I love you!"

　　In this earthquake, we witnessed numerous touching moments. When death is staring in the face, the parents will give up their own lives to protect their child with their own bodies. Some survivors who just escaped with life from the debris plunged themselves immediately into the rescue of strangers whom they never met before. A head of a grass-roots People's Congress, who had lost all his relatives to this earthquake, found no time to grieve for his relatives and instead, he led the people to conduct disaster relief with a bandaged head. Our dear armed forces made up of sons of people dug out the survived children from the debris and reinforced concrete with their bleeding hands….

　　There were numerous such touched stories of rescue, self-salvation, and mutual help in the disaster areas. The flashing glory shines brilliantly in the darkness of disaster.

　　Nothing in the world is considered on a par with that of the people's life. When the rescue exceeded the "golden period" of 72 hours immediately after the earthquake, President Hu Jintao, who is also the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, resolutely reaffirmed that the job of top priority remains to be the rescue of people. So long as there was a slim chance of hope, we would leave no stone unturned to rescue the people. Premier Wen Jiabao hurried to the forefront of the disaster relief within two hours in the wake of the earthquake and stated with emotion that even only one person was still in the debris, the effort of rescue should go on. The Central Military Commission mobilized 100,000 troops who raced to the disaster areas and immediately plunged themselves into the rescue of people that in fact has become the overriding mission of the Party, the government and the armed forces.

　　For the sake of saving more people's lives, the Chinese Government embraces the approach of opening-up and cooperated with international rescuers for the first time. As a result, professional rescuers from Japan, Russia, South Korea and Singapore joined in the rescue. CCTV offers 24-hour release of news on the situation and development of the disaster. All these epitomize dynamically the respect for people's lives which overrides anything else and is therefore spoken highly of by the international community.

　　It is a Chinese traditional culture to practice "the policy of benevolence and cherishing the people". However, due to the historical limits, the past dynasties hardly practiced this culture. This disaster relief serves to bring out conspicuously the position of the CPC and the Chinese Government in putting people first, showing concern about people's livelihood and the action being consistent with words. Some foreign media complimented the "Chinese top officials for shedding tears at the forefront, which embodies their image of cherishing the people" and "the earthquake has displayed the image of a new China."
